Public Swim
Pool opens June 15 & 16                         Pool Opens for season June 22 - Aug 18             Hours 11:00am - 7:00pm


The Wallingford Parks & Rec Department offers swim lessons to Wallingford residents at The Community Pool this summer under the direction of our WSI Certified Swim Instructors.

Each session is 2 weeks long and class time is 30 minutes. Swim lessons are open to children 3-11 years of age.
 
LEVEL 1: Water Exploration
The objective of level 1 is to help students feel comfortable in the water and enjoy the water safely.  Students will learn elementary water skills which they can build as they progress through the various levels.
*Become oriented to aquatic movement           *Supported float on front & back
*Basic breath control (bubble blowing)              *Supported kicking on front & back
*Fully submerge face for 3 seconds                     *Experience buoyancy (bob for 10 seconds)
 
LEVEL 2 :Primary Skills
Level 2 is to give students success with fundamental skills and learn how to float without support.  Learn basic self help rescue skills.
*Combined stroke front/back using kick/arm      *Bob & submerge head completely
  movements (5 yards)                                        *Bob in water slightly over head to travel to safe area
*Jump into deep water from side of pool           *Front/back glide with push off (2 body lengths) 
*Kneeling dive & compact dive from side          *Coordinating arm stroke for crawl with breathing side
  of pool                                                                        
*Coordinate back crawl                                     *Tread water
 
LEVEL 3: Stroke Readiness
In Level 3, students learn to coordinate front and back crawl.  Elementary backstroke and the fundamentals of treading water will be introduced.
*Retrieve object-eyes open & no support               *Fully submerge head (hold for 3 seconds)
*Retrieve objects in chest deep water                    *Orientation to deep water with support
*Front & back float support                                     *Unsupported back float or glide (5 seconds)
*Rhythmic breathing (bob 10 times)                        *Flutter kick on front/back
*Back crawl arm action
 
LEVEL 4: Stroke Development
The final level develops confidence in strokes learned thus far and to improve other aquatic skills.  Introduction to the side stroke and breaststroke.
*Deep water bobbing                                               *Experiment with buoyancy and floating position
*Elementary backstroke (10 yards)                           *Front/Back crawl
*Basic sidestroke                                                     *Tread water with modified scissors & rotary kicks
*Lessons will be held in 25 yard lap pool
