  • Wallingford Community Pool Information & Supporting Facts
Hours:  The facility is open from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. Monday through Sunday.  At times swim lessons or training drills will take place before 11:00 a.m.  The pool will be closed daily at 6:45 p.m.  This allows for the lifeguards to take out garbage from the day, check on the cleanliness of the facilities, and store equipment for the next day.
Lap Lanes:  At least two lap lanes will be open at all times during pool hours.  Lap Lanes are for adult lap swimmers.  Students between the ages of 8 and 14 can use lap lanes if they can pass a swim test and they have a parent sit on the side of the pool and watch them as they swim.  If students are younger than 8 years old they cannot use lap lanes.
Swim Lessons:   Lifeguards will teach swim lessons at our pool.  Many of these lifeguards swim or have swam competitively on high school and college teams.  They teach quality aquatics skills to children learning to swim.   You can sign your child up for lessons or get more information at Wallingford Park and Recreation, on 6 Fairfield Boulevard (203) 294-2120.
Guards:  A typical day includes 8 lifeguards and 1 supervisor.  That number may vary based on the needs of the pool.  Some factors may include extreme heat, or if a camp or rental is visiting the pool that day.
Guards actively in chairs:  One lifeguard is up in a chair per 20 swimmers, the number of guards up in chairs is determined by how many swimmers are in the pool, and by the professional discretion of our supervisors.  At times of extreme heat there may be slightly more than 20 swimmers per lifeguard in particular section of the pool.
Parent child checks:  This is a time when the water is cleared and pool rules are reviewed.  Parents should be in the water with young children at all times directly watching their children.  Due to the high population of patrons it is imperative that parents are watching their children at all times.  On humid days parent child checks will take place every twenty minutes.  This procedure is essential to the safety of the patrons at our pool.
First Aid Tent and Lifeguards:  The lifeguards under the first aid tent are responsible for minor and major first aid situations.  In case the emergency active plan is activated 5-7 guards minimum are needed under the first aid tent to safely care for a victim.  The duties during the emergency active plan are as follows:  One guard to open the ambulance gate and wait for the E.M.T's, one guard to call 911 and relay information about the incident, one guard to grab the A.E.D. machine, One guard to grab the backboard, One guard to clear the pool, one guard to calm down and guide family members of a victim to a safe spot, First responder guards will aid the victim, perform C.P.R. and or first aid procedures as necessary.
Sections:  Based on how many guards are on duty and the attendance for each specific day the supervisor will determine how many sections are open.  In case the emergency action plan is activated their needs to be several lifeguards under the first aid tent which will be a factor in determining how many sections will be opened.  Section 4 (which is the section closest to the street) is only open on camp days.
Camps:  Several times throughout the summer Wallingford Parks and Recreation camps will visit our facility.  They usually visit from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Rentals:  Rental information for birthday parties or social gatherings can be booked based on availability at the Wallingford Park and Recreation department on 6 Fairfield Blvd.                  (203) 294-2120
  • The Town Council approved to extend the days that Community Pool will be open and to increase all pool passes by $5.00 to offset the additional cost.
